HadesOmega Rides the Zero SR ZF12.5 Electric Motorcycle
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
The second bike I went for a demo ride of the day and its the very first electric motorcycle I've ever ridden. All I can say is it blew my mind! It is fast and fun to ride. It is kind of pricey though 12k to 15k and there is the thing about range anxiety. I felt it a couple times throughout the ride. I think if you want something fun to ride during a commute if your commute is within about 50 miles this bikes is perfect. The Zero SR is a naked sport bike styled electric motorcycle. It was a blast to ride watch and see! Here are the specs since I didn't include them in the video: Range 151 miles (however the one I rode says it was about 100 miles) Highway Range 77 miles Combined Range 102 Max Torque 106 ft/lbs Max Power 67 hp @ 4000 rpm Top Speed 102 mph Power pack max capacity 12.5kWh Battery pack life aprox. 339,000 miles Typical cost to recharge $1.40 Charge time to 95% 8.1 hours Weight 414 lbs Seat Height 31.8 in Other Electric Motorcycles I have ridden: Zero DS https://youtu.be/m56F1LS1ldA Victory Empulse R https://youtu.be/EWWwXFOzxyA

you really need to learn to counter-steer

I had a blast test riding them:

They are about as expensive as BMW, but designed and made in the USA.

I definitely want to buy one of these but I think I'll wait a few more years because they are still way too damn expensive. You'll never make a profit from the $14k DSR/SR's and even on the $10k DS/S's, their 5 year warranty on the battery will run out before you make a profit from money saved on gas and maintenance, guess how much it costs to replace those batteries after 5-6 years, I'll give you a hint, all the money you saved the past 5 years of using it ends up going down the drain with 1 simple purchase of their new battery that costs several thousand.
I'm upset because I really want a zero, I looked at their performance 3 years ago and said no way not worth it, now I look at the 2016 bikes and I said wow! Their performance are actually respectable. Now they just need to either increase the warranty on the battery by a few more years, or the batteries need to last more than 5 years before they operate at 80% efficiency.
I think it's safe to say it's easier to just extend the warranty. -
Dude! Great review. I may have bought this exact bike from San Jose BMW. I love it! Did you ever end up buying a Zero?
-
Nice ride man! Gotta love your emotional attachment to the ride spirit! Quick question though, about the loss of power, was it because the battery was getting hot or because your switch to sport mode happened while moving and it requires some sort of speed reduction to acknowledge the mode change? Nice review!

I see a traffic violation at 2:42

it probably be too expensive if it had the wind turbine or a regen in it maybe they should work with the erocket guys from germany
-
the power issue: eco mode is limited to 120km/h. sport mode does the full 164km/h. when you switched to sport mode while applying throttle, it doesnt switch. you have release the throttle for it to activate. thats the blinking part. also, regen is higher on eco mode than on sport. but you can use custom mode to change settings...

wow look at all those squillions of fcking cars everywhere. WTF. wonder if literally squillions of cars pumping out pollution 24/7 will have any impacts on the world lol. maybe scientists should study it. maybe we should just ban cars. but that would be social engineering. and thats not good unless its social engineering to create a world with squillions of cars in it

So no passing power at freeway speeds? Thats a deal breaker for me. Might as well just get a 650. Until the increase the range and torque at speeds.
-
Nice bike but I don't see many of them selling at that price with that big of a range drop.
-
Can't wait to get one and illegally ride in between lanes.
-
This, I'm sure for you tech guys, is a dumb question but why isn't there a generator like in a car that charges the battery as you move?
-
this video is so cool!! i have recently uploaded a gopro video of autumn bike ride.
it will mean a lot for me if you could check it.
thbks!! :)) -
what i remember from reading about zeros is as the battery percentage lowers the performance gets limited. but its weird that with so much percentage left it was lower usually at about 20% or lower it limits power. the other possibility is it overheating. it lowers performance if there is overheating. what i would like to see is a liquid cooled motor/battery pack that could give the motor more power and longevity. it would add some mass but for those who would ride hard it could benefit them.

26:12 Love that Starcraft 2 reference!

Hey - pretty sure the blinking Sport on the dash means it wasn't in sport mode yet because you hadn't let off the throttle while transitioning from Eco mode. When you did come off throttle on the offramp, sport stops blinking and you had full power, which you noticed on the surface street.you just need to be familiar with modes - reset your throttle hand and you've got sport mode.
-
Did you find out what happened to the performance towards the end of the ride? Was the battery pack overheating, or did some sort of limiter kick in? That's the kind of thing that could be disturbing...
