The only regret I've ever had about buying a Brompton is not buying one sooner. Got mine in 2007 and it's been used at least (and here I'm being very, very conservative) 300 days per year since then. I've been through several wheelsets, several transmissions, I'm on my second seat clamp bush, and second rear triangle hinge. Apart from those and obviously, blocks, tyres, cables, it's all original. I reckon it's cost me maybe £200 per year so far and it looks likely to last a long time yet. Awesome device.

I know a guy here in ph that made a copy of a brompton. Handmade it too just like brompton. the cost? Roughly 200 dollars parts and all. He even said if that type of fold is not patented he can easily and cheaply mass produce it.
Anyone can make an excact copy of that bike as long as you have welding and bike knowhow.
A steel tube bike worth 1k or more dollars is not worth it no matter how much i try to convince myself -
How is a Brompton made...
After spending £1500, having 3 frame changes, 2 handle bar stem and wasting money on clear liquor and being advised by Brompton to go with solid colour, therefore loosing money (approx £120 approx) due to corrosion problems
I'd say badly -
One of my best purchase, I have 2 of them.

Bromptons are too expensive..... £500 for a small folding bike with poor gearing! REALLY????

I like the speed uno moist

Shame they don't know how to lower the weight of these folders. I bought 2 dahon presto lites when they first came out, and bought another 2 for future as they were discontinued. Nothing feels better then a 18lb bike zooming around city streets

I have 4 Bromptons, and I need more!! xx

Bromptons are great bikes. My own paid for itself in about a year in saved fuel. At peak times, I get to & from work quicker than by car, and at other times only about 5 mins slower. I don;t have to worry about parking, a use a few hundred more calories every day. What's not to like?

you are right but I have a Chinese folding bike and it's nice

... cont... previous.... I would have to brace myself for a Dahon fold; wondering if I would get to keep all my fingers! The Brompton is a joy to fold, flick in on it's park position, it practically folds it's self! and you get to keep all of your digits!

Recent years, Brompton has been around in the UK for 30 years.... I have been using one since 1995. I did have a short dalliance with a Dahon due to it being half the price, but while the Dahon was a sweet ride (despite the stiff and rigid alloy frame, and flexy stem), it was really poor for getting hold of spares and Brompton spares are very very good and easy to het hold of. The Brompton is a much better folder...

Owning a Brompton is one of the most important event of all my life!!

Let's put things in perspective: Cost of a non folding, big box store bike that is made in China by workers making @ $1 or so per hour with parts (pedals, chain, shifter, tire tubes) that are designed to begin failing after @ 75 miles and must be locked outside where the bike is subject to theft, vandalism and rust: $100 Cost of a quality, hand-crafted in London, made to order, Brompton bike that last for decades and folds into a tiny, wheel-able package: from $1150

they're not expensive whats expensive the the petrol/gasoline you pay every year about $1200 and up thats every friggin year Brompton pays decent labor wages not Slave labor wages in Communist China !

That's why they're expensive, basically handmade.
