Cycling in the winter months is hard on your bike. Save money and keep your bike running smoothly with GCN's tips. Follow GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/gcnsubs Cycling in the winter exposes you and your bike to sub zero temperatures, wind, rain, snow, grit, and salt on the roads. This is a corrosive mixture that, if not dealt with, can damage your bike and cost you lots of money each winter. As more people abandon the traditional winter bike and choose to use their race bikes throughout the year, knowing how to protect your bike has become more important. GCN's tips for adapting your bike for winter can help your bike stay in great condition whatever the weather throws at it (and you). Car wax your frame to protect it from rainwater and grit

As someone from Minnesota, all the GCN videos about winter are just laughable. A little bit of rain? Ha! Try snow, ice, salt, sand, and -25° C temperatures.

what about snow? it snows often here and a problem i have is the snow sticking to my tyre and building up between my fork and the tyre,it gets to where as i can hear a rub sometimes,i feel like i shouldn't ride road in the snow but i have no other options because of a financial crisis im facing currently, and i need to get to work

Great videos, guys! What characteristics should a tyre have for winter riding? I got a hybrid bike with 32mm tyres currently - very slick ones, no tread at all. What shall I look for in a tyre to be suitable for winter? Softer compound? Tread? These days the temperatures are 0-7 and roads are mostly wet. Thank you

I wax mine a couple of times over the winter. It beads the water off the frame beautifully.

I normally replace my chain and cables each year. Usually just before the start of the racing season. (I'm a schoolboy racer) I also just get my bike a general service, making sure it's all in tip top condition

Just got a fatbike to bike through winter, but finding proper full mudguards/fenders seems impossible, at least that ship internationally (Norway here). Very annoying.
-

-
I replace my white bar tape to black so I don't have a dirty bar

Riding a road bike on ice and snow is a short cut to the hospital.
Cheap bike with studded tires and good lights is all you need for commuting during the winter months. -
One tip for him, wear and extra layer or some different tights because we can see your knob.
-
what videos do you guys have for riding in snow? Not UK snow, Canada snow?
-
Any recommendations for winter gloves? Just spent $50 on a pair and my finger tips felt like they were going to fall off in under 30 mins (23 degree F weather)

Last winter when i ride my bicycle on the snow, salt almost eat all of my moving parts because after the ride i never wash my bicycle because it was always clean because of snow but as i said salt destroyed many things on it. So my advice at least wash it with clear water to get rid of salt. Enjoy in snow riding! :D
