How to Change Your Rear Derailleur - Replacing Your Bike's Rear Mech
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Replacing and adjusting your rear derailleur to make sure that your gears are shifting correctly is a relatively easy task when you know how. Follow GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/gcnsubs Key in moving the chain up and down the cassette, rear mechs are pretty sturdy, but can over time stop working as well as they once did, or if you're a mountain biker get ripped off entirely by rocks or roots. Here we show you how to change your rear derailleur and how to adjust it so that it shifts correctly, using the H, L and B screws. We also look at fine tuning the shifting with the use of the barrel adjusters to sort the indexing of your gears. Thanks. I've done it successfully. Went into my LBS for a chainlink connector and cable crimps, told the guy what I was doing, he wasn't very happy as he's being doing all my repairs for a number of years now, I've not often been happy with the standard of his work, but now I can do some of it myself, that's just great.

Good video, but adjusting the high/low screws is much easier (at least in my experience) with the chain off the bike and using your hand to push the derailleur in/out while adjusting the screws. I also do this while adjusting the b-limit screw with the chain off the bike to get a rough estimate, and then fine-tune that once the chain is back on the bike.

I still can't fix it. Such a failure, can't do anything right.

Yes my cousin his name is Bruno and he is 5 speed bike and he drove it at our cottage and he was trying to shift gears but he told me it would shift in gear? What's the problem

Do you not use any locktite when fitting the mech to the hanger?
-
I think I'll just drop it off at my bike shop.

I have Shimano 105 Rear Derailleur but I 've already broken it apart but... the question is the 9sp. Rear
Derailleur are compatible with 10sp. Sprocket and Shifters 10sp. ?
( example : shimano SORA Rear Derailleur 9sp. mixed with shimano 105
10sp. Sprocket and Shifter )sorry for my bad english language
thank you sir. -
Hi! is it a good idea to use blue loctite when installing a new rear mech?

Small tip: instead of using an end cap on the shifter (or brake) cable you can also use electrical shrink tubing. Looks better in my opinion (you can chose your color) and it has te same effect (the cable doesn't unwires itself and doesn't corrode at the cutted surrface).

They all make this look so easy and straight forward, but every time I try this, I some how set my bike on fire and summon demon. :/

Hello, Global Cycling Network! I have a issue with re-installing my rear "TB one" derailleur as I had to remove my bent rim. I forgot how to attach it correctly on my 29" Roadmaster/Pacific Cycle. Please help me. local bike shop sold me an aftermarket rim that barely fits as I had to stretch the rear frame. I now have the coveted pin/quick release system.

I can't even begin to tell you how good this video is! I think you answered about 27 of my questions in less than 6 minutes! Thank you!

Following my earlier question about the rear derailleur, I failed to say that the lower part of the derailleur is hanging to the rear under the tension of a spring? I have fitted a new cable and outer, Do I need to tension the cable which will then pull the lower part of the derailleur to 'hang' down and so in the correct position - if you understand what I mean?

I am a disabled cyclist and a virgin bike mechanic but have managed to refurbish my Scott Hybrid. However, I'm having issues with the rear derailleur. The lower part of it is 'hanging backwards' rather than 'downwards'! What do I need to do to allow it to hang correctly?
