My weekly routine:
• Remove wheels
• Remove chain
• Clean chain for 15 minutes with Simple Green (non-toxic solvent and detergent) diluted 1:15 in an ultrasonic cleaner. Repeat twice more with fresh cleaning solution. This is by far the most tidy and low-labor way to get a chain really, really clean.
Cleaning the rest of the drive train (and the rear cassette) with the chain out of the way is much easier. (The time it takes me to clean the rest of the bike and drive train–at a rather leisurely pace–is usually about the same as the 45 minutes of ultrasonic cleaning.) Put it all back together, lube and go! -
what this is bear gryles son right. lol

Nail brush hack a winner for me!!!

i know this has been on a while...but have you tried bilt hamber.. its eco friendly and much cheaper than Morgan blue etc....i came across it by chance and every cyclist who i have got to use it now swears by it...but keeps it a secret.

Will just drying with a rag really get the chain dry enough to not allow it to rust? I would think in between the plates the water will never be completely removed and that's where rust will form no?

I don't know if I should do this every time since putting oil on there every time takes some time. Do you clean it after every cycle run?

$2 spray can of acetone aka brake cleaner. spotless, leaves no residue, dries in seconds, get it at any auto parts store or isle.

I used shower gel, eg Lynx, that Mint one, etc, that I received as unwanted presents as my degreaser. It worked very well, and smelt a little nicer than most!

Take of your chain, submerge it in a cup full with petrol, leave for five minutes and then wash it with maximum pressure with your garden hose. Shake it well to get rid of the water, wipe it and then hang it from a nail and pour some lube on the top end. The oil will role down and cover the rest of the chain. Let it there until the excess oil is collected in a cup as it drips, wipe with a cloth and you are ready. All this can be done while washing the rest of your bike. Its the fastest and best way to clean remove all the muc effortless.

If using KMC chains, all you need is just a dry wipe, you will ruin the chain if you use a chain bath and aggressive degreasers.
