So where does the oil damping take place? Is there a more inner part of the shock that only a service center works on? Here I was under the impression that the oil film I saw on the externally visible shock shaft was actually shock oil but apparently it's only the fox lubricant fluid?

MAGIC..watch that Fox turn into a CC.

so i just did this, worked perfectly. but i noticed before i took my triad ii apart the can wasn't screwed all the way on. and after i did this service it didn't hold air being screwed all the way on. i backed the can out and it holds air, anyone have any ideas?

Out of all the bad ass bearing technology, fox and other still use du bushings. I have found they fail too much.
Use only sealed cartrige bearings and verify they are forged from american steel. This will take you to the top end in durability.
Steel sealed bearings ftw..... -
Very good video. Thanks for that. I have problems openng mine. and well I am from Germany and wasn't able to understand the tool name of the yellow stripe thingy properly to translate it on the internet. So how's it called? :)

If you have an XV larger air can and you keep bottoming out you can also just buy a volume spacer kit which reduces the volume and so ramps up the spring rate as it compresses. It's a lot cheaper than a new air can!
-
the float fluid lubricates the seals and the shock.
-
So what's the fox oil for? Is there any special way to replenish that? Which we didn't see?
-
