Keep your bike safe when you stop. Follow GCN on YouTube: http://gcn.eu/gcnsubs When you stop at a cafe or a shop, your bike is an easy target for thieves. There is no substitute for a heavy duty lock or not leaving your bike unattended. If you need to go into a shop or cafe and your bike is momentarily out of sight, these strategies won't stop a thief, but they will delay them. Fuck off

Or ride a brakeless fixie and watch the thief die as he can't stop.

I feel like in a city, most bike thieves are 100 percent prepared to not be able to ride off. Then again, I carry a 5 lb U lock for when I'm riding out ANYWHERE in New Orleans. Great tips to make it that much more of a pain in the ass though!

I always have a cable lock in my saddle bag. I know it is not the best lock and will be not secure against a cable cutter, but at least it will help when I have it still in view.
-
Wearing a chain lock around you. Seriously adds weight, however you won't need a pannier or book bag for your heavy U lock.
-
Loosen the stem at the headset. Unless he's walking around with a set of allen keys, no thief will be able to ride your bike and it doesn't cause any damage to your bike!

Take the seat with you.

All of these are dumb ideas, as the premise of leaving your bike anywhere unattended for even a few seconds is an invitation for a thief to make off with it. Why take that chance? Either take your bike with you into the store (may be impractical in many stores), have a trusted person watch over it, have someone go in & buy your stuff for you or go somewhere that sells through a window or counter or drive-thru. NEVER leave your bike unattended.
-
If you have a group and its a short stop have a designated watcher and for that someone gets their drink.
-
You forgot to mention elastic bands on the brake levers!

I like those tires with the green stripe on the white Felt bike in the video.
What's the name of those tires?
Thanks!!
