Hey! I hope this video showcases some methods that others have used and the one I found for myself to work a bit better. Let me know if you have any questions!

I agree with most of your points
- never use the pipe wrench or
- never use the screw driver on the locknut
The ones I disagree with are
- using the needle nose pliers, on the locknut
- using your hand on the cassette
These are potentially dangerous
The proper tools are necessary -
how can i put the locking nut back?
-
Tight arse.. Cheap as hell to buy a chain whip and remover
-
You`re not one of those who knows how to open doors without the keys are you ?!

Can I only put the first gear on and cycle ?????? Plz

I agree with all the dissenting opinion: trying to remove a cassette without the proper tools is dumb. The tools are not expensive. In some places, you do not even have to buy the tools. You can go to a bicycle co-op, learn how to work on a bicycle properly, and have use of any special tools needed, all for a nominal fee.

needle nose pliers and a cloth works every time, I showed a mate and he was outraged but he cares about torque and exact psi and has all the correct tools but cant ride up a hill and gets scared going down them! he is a tool with all the tools, nice guy though

The correct tool is rather inexpensive by the way....

Where the a will there's a way. Coool

next time I would try using a old piece of chain to hold the cassette instead of your hand, it would be more comfortable and work about the same as a real chain whip.

Thanks for the good video.
Please everyone, don't use the technique of hitting a screwdriver to get the nut off. We're talking bearings here folks. Nothing like a little impact to destroy a bearing. Flyfreak23 has a much better idea.
You can improve the torque capability by using a set of angled needle nose pliers. I agree with other posters that the cassette wrench is so cheap we all really should have one. -
Just buy a chain whip, cassette tool, and an adjustable wrench... Maybe it would cost $30 total. But I can remove a cassette with the proper tools in less than a minute and risk NO damage to the cassette or lockring.
