How To Remove/Install Kickstand On Vintage Schwinn Bike With No Special Tools
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Fast and easy. Remove and install the kickstand on a vintage Schwinn bicycle with no special tools. I use just a 10" adjustable (Crescent type) wrench. Schwinn made a special kickstand removal tool. Park Tool also has the KS-1 Kickstand Tool. But you really don't need those. **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy -Subscribe Here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shyflirt1 -YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RJTheBikeGuy

Great video, RJ. If you check my videos, you'll see I'm working on a Schwinn tandem that has a kickstand just like this. I've been trying for a week to figure out how to remove it. Your video has helped immensely!

Thanks, I've always wondered how to remove those. I just got a 1970 Schwinn Sting Ray Fair Lady & the guy before me took the kickstand off & I have a old huffy girls frame that looks like it has the same kickstand.
-
that helped a lot. but how do you get the spring off of the kickstand?
-
I'm sorry but this is all wrong. First the head on the pin goes in head first. That is what keeps it from falling out. Second, unless the pin head has a worn flat spot, the collar that you are pressing on does not stick out at all on the welded on frame bracket. In fact the collar has to be pushed in deeper than flush in the frame bracket to put the pin back in or to take it out. I use a large worn smooth flat blade screw diver to push the collar in to get these in and out, it takes some muscle and the bike needs to be laying down on some blankets or the grass need be. Taking the left pedal off, left hand thread, helps a lot. I have done a ton of these without ever damaging anything.

my kickstand does not lock in place after install - it can rotate 360 degrees. is there a schematic for the kickstand?

My brother and I got a Schwinn bike for Christmas back in 1948 and we thought it was one of the best bikes in our neighborhood. That kickstand was faultless and better than any other bicycle kickstand. It was a really brilliant design.
-
LOL you put the pin in upside down. Big end goes in so it stays locked in there and doesn't pop out.
-
Picked up a vintage Schwinn frame and the kickstand pin looks like it was installed upside down (i.e., the larger pin end is holding the kickstand in). Any thoughts on how to remove? Thanks for the great videos.

Unfortunately my Crescent wrench has a diamond for a hole on the handle, so it wouldn't fit over the kickstand. I experimented with some box end wrenches and I found that the 3/4 wrench works pretty good also!
