Inside Batteries: Zero Motorcycles Senior Battery Specialist, Luke Workman
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
For as many benefits as electric motorcycles provide, to date there are still two areas preventing e-bikes from penetrating through to the masses: range and price. There’s not enough of the former, and there’s too much of the latter. Zero Motorcycles’ Senior Battery Specialist, Luke Workman, is dedicated to furthering the performance of battery technology. The results, then, would lead to ever increasing range at a price affordable by the masses. Please continue to increase the range on your bikes.

It's good to see someone who realizes what a stupid contraption an Internal Combustion Engine really is...

This guy is a genius!

Did the demo ride for these - friggin - awesome!

Sounds like typical electric BS. "It's the most amazing technology and works 10x better than gas and there's some lady with snake oil that just needs money and the batteries will be 1000x more sense than gasoline it's not even a comparison." Meanwhile their bikes are still more expensive, less powerful, heavier, and have crap range compared to gas.
I don't doubt electric will become competitive to gas, but it's a lot longer than they act. It's just hipster, "tech" bullshit at this point. I wish it was treated realistically. If you're going to talk about the Rude Goldberg(sp?) of gas engines, talk about the way electricity is made and transferred to the batteries. Just as complex.
It's been how many decades that we've been told battery tech will be here in the next couple of years? -
Anyone know how long (years) these battery packs last? I assume some degeneration over time but has anyone seen packs go dead?

Ok I want to say:
I'd LOVE a silent motorcycle, I don't know what's the whole fuss about. -
I love gas powered bikes and have had them for years. but this is the future I think it is great
-
Maybe he could develop a battery for his razor :)
Electric drive is taking over but several of the things he says here are bs.
The company name is Sakti3 and her name is Ann Sastry and she hasn't claimed 1000Wh/kg afaik and she has been very not forthcoming about showing anything of substance for several years so I'm not exactly holding my breath on that one.
He speaks with confidence but doesn't really have the insight to warrant that confidence. -
We love our Zero DS... Truly a magic carpet ride! We've sold our gas bikes. No more clutch, oil, gas or other maintenance...we just plug in, then come out and ride all day! It's amazing! Way to go Luke Workman and the Zero team for designing such great bikes!

A lot of marketing misinformation on this interview. Ex: Mugen has been developing (with a huge budget) the electric bike that has been cleaning the TT with McGuiness at the bars. But it still is almost 10% slower than the petrol bikes. Same for the electric efforts on Pikes Peak. How about the Formula E vehicles? Lot's of money for development but slower and with horrible endurance, forcing them to have car swaps during the race. Electric is one of the possible futures for vehicles, but battery development is still a long way from making it the performance king. Maybe in 10 years time it will be feasible both from a technology and from an economical perspective, but it isn't at the moment (as Luke wants to pass as reality) and it won't be in a couple of years I am afraid. Wish people just stuck to the facts instead of acting as fan boys from either side.

Should be yesterdays technology, so I don't really want to call it future tech but well it is definitely the future.

Cost!

Geez, reading the comment section on here is like listening to geezers in the 90's talk about how the Internet was "just a fad" and "wouldn't replace my television". Yes, he's a bit wooden in the interview, but he's a damn engineer, not a silver tongued salesmen.

When he was talking about the Mission RS I was like: AND WHAT ABOUT THE LIGHTNING LS-218?
-
All electrical anything in transportation is a waste of money.

Elle me plairait bien cette bécane!!

Luke looks like he lives in a Unabomber shack.
