If building up a new frame you can relatively easily push that inner cable housing through the holes. The natural bend along with it's relative "stiffness" makes pushing it gently through the hole fairly easy; then rotate it till you can push it out the other end. Push the cable through and done!

I use heat shrink. I cut the end of the old cable heat shrink the new cable together and then just pulled a new cable straight through.

tube over cable method in the medical field is called the Seldinger Technique. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seldinger_technique

Wow, I wish you posted this two weeks earlier... I actually threw out my Orbea because I couldn't guide the cable through the bike
-
You're making this way to hard. I just take a piece of thin wire, make small curve on end, and slide through the frame. Then I tape the cable to the wire and pull it gently back through. So easy. I have a Bianchi frame.
-
Do you actually use outer cables when inside the frame? And how do you prevent them from rattling? Probably the same for Di2 cables?
-
Working with a bike has become a crazy adventure with internal cabling. I never thought of needing a vacuum cleaner! :D
-
A video on how to replace the stem, please!
-
What about attaching thread to the cable before you removing it, then you pull out the cable and thread stays in the frame. Then you simply use the thread to put new cable in the frame. No need for vacuum cleaner :D
-
actually the first hack is better

Tom probably discovered this method making love to the trek that he likes to show off ...

You don't lube the cables?
