1. Around 4:40 you were talking about Illinois. A highway here is defined as any public road, so the street I live on is a highway legally. Bicycles are allowed on any public road except for roads which display a max speed limit of over 45 miles per hour or where signs specifically state no bikes allowed. The first rule makes it illegal to bike on the "highway"/interstate.

8. Professional road and track sprinters will often surpass 40mph in the final sprint of a race but they only sustain that for a few seconds at most. The World Speed Record for a bike on a flat road is like 86mph but that was done with a recumbent equipped with an full aerodynamic shell.

11. Here in Ontario, Canada. You can ride your bike anywhere but the 400 series hwy.Sholders or not and even when bike paths are available you aren't forced to use them. Side walks are a no no.

13. In the United Kingdom, "highway" means any publicly owned road. Occasionally there's signage prohibiting cycling, but in general the only roads on which cycling is completely prohibited are motorways (they're like US freeways, I believe). Other than that, you can cycle on any road, even major trunk roads. Whether you're sane to attempt it is another question.
    
    Why can cyclists use any roads? They were using them before cars were invented, and with the exception of motorways (introduced in the 1950s) bicycle use was simply never outlawed.

15. well Blogger, I don't know how closely you've followed my lane control sage, or even if you followed at all. But to give you and everyone else reading this the hyper short version; I was found guilty by the same judge in both Hamilton & Egg Harbor Townships of failure to keep right and impeding traffic. the entire NJ cycling manual was ejected and ruled to NOT be law but rather a "how to" guide. The problem here is....it's not like I found the information on someone's blog (i.e. Bike Blogger), how offers helpful hints for cycling. The information is State sanctioned and issued by the state of New Jersey. So.....in short. The State of New Jersey has found me guilty for operating my legally recognized vehicle EXACTLY AS IT HAS INSTRUCTED ME TO DO. Hell not just me, but all cyclists in NJ. The judge, prosecutor and police have yet to offer a realistic solution for a cyclist to travel down a road that has 10' wide lanes.....NO SHOULDER.....and flanked on the right by turning lanes filled with traffic TURNING RIGHT. Judge Switzer has ordered me to ride in said right hand turning lanes as it is part of the road. meaning a cyclist can ride on any part of county black top regardless of its direction of travel. I tried in vain to make them all understand that I am not a recreational cyclist, but rather an inner city vehicular cyclist! It fell on deaf ears. The Judge thought he was doing me a favor by pointing me in the direction of our local bike path. pfffft....that thing is a puny 7 miles long and more to the point, IT DOESN'T GO EVERY WHERE I NEED TO! But that to was simply too much for this court to wrap it's oil driven head around. They simply can't imagine life without a car as I live.

    Anyways you used the right word in your video description. Drove me a little nuts since I was not sure what you see as a highway and what is not.
    
    I ride on a 50mph heavy traffic highway all the time. (With lane control its very safe. There shoulder but too many driveways.)

19. Around Memphis I often see signs on on-ramps saying non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians prohibited on limited-access highways.
    
    On the I-55 bridge going over the Mississippi River from Memphis to West Memphis, there is a 5-foot sidewalk on each side. I've ridden across that sidewalk once and it's scary as hell! Even with concrete barriers the semi trucks are going by at 70 mph, and the river is 100 feet below. Fortunately there's a new bike and pedestrian path being built on the adjacent bridge which should be finished soon.
