Japanese mothers frequently rely on bicycles to get around town and a unique type of bike called mamachari exists which is specially designed for the mom on the go. These bikes usually include one or more child seats as well as room for carrying large bags. Some mamachari even include special battery-assisted drives to help Okasan climb tough hills when carrying a full load of kids and groceries.

So i guess they are smarter! Economically and environmentally wise too! :D

Yeah but guess what? The moms do it all the time, and have a lesser death rate than the moms that ride the station wagons. Did you know that car-related deaths are the number one killer for children under the age of 10? Seems the bikes are safer to me.

And the silly americans still continue to believe this is terrible unsafe for the kids, when Japanese moms do it all the time and don't fall off. lol.

I don't know why Japanese mamachari bikes are here in the Philippines.

Moms in America have a pretty high tendency to be obese, and so do their children. Japan's obesity rate is what, 3.4%? America's is about ten times that. Aside from obvious food differences, maybe American moms (and Americans in general) can take a page from these Japanese women.

In my last trip to japan, i saw hundreds of girls riding bikes at 6:30 pm all of them with withe helmets and uniforms, does anybody knows what are they doing at that time riding bycicles everyday?? thanks for your answers.
