Ducati is what?? Buddy,i got a Panigale tricolore and believe me: It works like a swiss watch! Don't hate good bikes just cause you can't afford them.

Massive Engines Bikes. You forgot an Amazonas.

Many years ago I had a 750 Norton Interstate. I used to take it out on 100 mile jaunts just for the fun of it, but it had one glaring caveat I hated and it was those Amal oil filled Carburetors. It might have been a clever idea way back in the early 1900s, but they continued to use them when other carburetors had become much more efficient and practical.

MR. PRESENTER: Motor bikes are not for practicality?? WRONG! Unless a motorbike has been your only way to work, to school or just to get the groceries, perhaps you will understand. I think you are a Brit, and so I would expect that you would know that millions of people rely on two wheels for vital, practical transportation. My uncle did in the 1930's. I ride a 25 year old, factory made sort of cafe racer. Despite its sports character, it has got me to work for many years — teeming rain, searing heat, snow flurries, freezing air — I have every piece of kit that did not even exist when I first started riding: meshed armour, leather, ... and something like a space suit for the big freeze. I admit to committing the ultimate in IM-practical motorcycling — racing. Decades later, I am a only a practical user. Nonetheless, I'll ride until until I can't.

19:55 Nice Ducati commercial. I remember how I sniffed ducatis with an ordinary 139 hp 240kg Kawasaki ZX9R that gave me so much bang 4 the xucking buck back in 1996. Ducs cost twice as much as a Japanese and got broken every weekend or every 2000mls. Very entertaining but actually not well engineered because they do not last long. Anyway. If you are a Dentist, this may be your bike.

There was a Desmo conversion kit for Velocette singles back in the early sixties I believe manufactured by BMG

Roight, Mate, ye forgot to mention the 2-stroke! I am a HUGE fan and proponent of 2 stroke engines, and as awesome as the Ducati Desmodromic engines are, they are still rotten, BLOODY 4-strokes! With direct fuel injection and lubrication systems similar to a 4 stroke, with a blower supplying the scavenging air, and only air, these are the most efficient engines on the PLANET, and contrary to what you may think, they also run CLEANER than a 4 stroke! When will we see direct injected 2 strokes? And the traditional crankcase-scavenged, petroil mix or oil injection lubricated conventional Day Cycle 2 stroke engines can still kick the pants off most 4 strokes, no matter how "advanced". And this is with carburettors and even contact-breaker ignition! Here's my philosophy------if it goes RIIIINNNGG--diiiing ding--it's the THING (2-stroke!) and if it goes putt putt putt, it is a freaking SLUT (4-stroke!) Actually direct injected 2 strokes don't pop intermittently, they fire every single stroke, idling, lightly loaded, etc! Think Detroit Diesel with lower compression and spark plugs added, and running on petrol! You need to do a documentary on the many FINE 2 stroke British and Japanese, German, etc, biked made over the decades! My first real road bike was bought in 1987, and was a 1974 Suzuki GT-550 3 cylinder 2 stroke and it was FAST, DEPENDABLE, and that SOUND---GOD, that sound! No engine can beat the sound of a 2 stroke triple, NONE. :-D Cheers, and God Bless, from a British engine-and-culture loving Yank in upstate NY USA! Cheerio!

I've never rode a motorbike but when I see the old school bikes I want to ride so much! I'd love to try but don't know anyone with a bike.

Rocket 3 --- 2.3 LITRE.

Motorbikes arent about practicalility ? They ARE !
-
Harleys may make big engines ( massive ) but do people realise how inefficient they are? So is bigger better?? I do not think so myself. In my humble opinion folk buy into the brand not into reality.

Mmmm at 5:25 Chris took his foot off the starter very lively "chicken" lol.

How could somebody do a show about "massive engines bikes" without including Boss Hoss motorcycles?
