A motorcycle (also called a motorbike, bike, moto or cycle) is a two or three wheeled motor vehicle. Motorcycles vary considerably depending on the task they are designed for, such as long distance travel, navigating congested urban traffic, cruising, sport and racing, or off-road conditions. Motorcycles are one of the most affordable forms of motorised transport in many parts of the world and, for most of the world's population, they are also the most common type of motor vehicle.[3][4][5] There are around 200 million motorcycles (including mopeds, motor scooters, motorised bicycles, and other powered two and three-wheelers) in use worldwide,[6] or about 33 motorcycles per 1000 people. This compares to around 590 million cars, or about 91 per 1000 people. Most of the motorcycles, 58%, are in the developing countries of Asia -- Southern and Eastern Asia, and the Asia Pacific countries, excluding Japan -- while 33% of the cars (195 million) are concentrated in the United States and Japan. In 2006, China had 54 million motorcycles in use and an annual production of 22 million units.[7][8] As of 2002, India, with an estimated 37 million motorcycles/mopeds, was home to the largest number of motorised two wheelers in the world. China came a close second with 34 million motorcycles/mopeds.

Why spend so much time on the Boss Hoss, the Tomahawk, or the Road Dog? Most of us already know what a morotcycle isn't.

Let's keep this Harley thing in perspective and tread firmly on loon comments from folk like 'Superhogg bike' (tho I suppose Bacorable and Tramp maybe poured fuel on the fire......)
People really enjoy different kinds of bikes.
By huge good luck I got the chance to ride about 8 Harleys back to back a couple of years ago.
I ride an old R1. Mostly I did not much like the Harleys at all.
The Nightrod - derided amongst many in the Harley fraternity for its water cooling - astonished me with its accelereation.
Way beyond what I expected from it. Nowhere near a BM S1000RR, but still a really poky motor which the frame length really let lay down its drive to great effect.
But the laid back riding position gave me the impression I was atop the world's fastest bathchair!
Hell of an experience 'though and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it.
Of all the other Harleys I rode there was only one which I really enjoyed, that felt fun, agile and fairly planted.
(Why on earth anyone thought it would be a selling point to be able to say 'I've just had a great rind .... on a fat boy ...... escapes me 'though).
So I will stick to sports bikes - and maybe off roaders when opportunity presents.
Which must mean cruisers are rubbish, right?
Wrong.
It just means I really like sports bikes and MXers.
Other folk I know live to ride their cruisers.
Some of 'em probably clock up a lot more miles in a year than me.
What it really means is if you want to ride a motorised unicycle and the guy down the block thinks a Gold WIng is wonderful you'd be better off banding together to resist the anti-bike legislators and hand-wringing nannies than slagging each other. -

Is that Dennis Gage @ 4:17?

The best moto is the one you own, paid-off, with a 'pink slip' title, and still road ready in good condition to have fun any time. That's when the custom tinkering begins to suit your style.

True freedom is one of the used Kawi Ninjas that I have owned that cost less than $2,000, weighed less than 500 Lbs and got me to 95 mph on the NJ Turnpike

without motorcycles life would suck

Do the writers do ANY research ? They Claim that New Zealand Has NO Motorcycle History. They SHOULD be claiming New Zealand as a place of Motorcycle Innovation! They did do a nice though brief bit about John Britten & his astounding machine, yet they NEVER mention Burt Munroe, who in the late 60's took a 1920 Indian Scout, Modified it & built from scratch by HAND every part, Then took it to the Bonneville Salt Flats & did Over 200 mph in the under 1000 cc class. Please look for the Movie "The Worlds Fastest Indian" w/ Anthony Hopkins if you havn't heard of this Motorcycle building Genius

at like 3:20 when the guy is saying it's something you don't know you need till you try it, it's so fucking true. i always thought motorcycles were cool but thought they were kinda dumb in the sense that they are death machines likely impossible to ride on mangled nyc roads, but then i rode one and liked it. still tho i didn't get the bug until my friend let me ride his sport bike (at this point it was diff bc i actually knew how to ride them), and literally 2 weeks later i got my permit and a bike LOL. now, a couple months later i have my license and have already put 3k miles on it.
now i regret not having started earlier.. I'm 30 now and just started riding -
Can I get the motocross conversion kit for my Gold Wing?

"The chopper was invented in some nameless garage?" Leave it to the lying history channel to bend the truth. The chopper was invented in the 50s by a black guy named Ben Hardy out of L.A. Who also is the one that made the Captain America bike for Peter Fonda. The HC is so full of crap.

Indian motorcycle practices were very scrupulous and unethical @ the early time of making Indian Motorcycles in regards to buying every model Harley Davidson had @ the time and dissembling each one, then getting patents on all parts Harley had not gotten. Indian motorcycle Company and others then formed class action lawsuits against HD for 1 million dollars. HD paid the $1 million bankrupting HD which put Harley Davidson in the position of starting from scratch all over again, ( FACT ). Now HD is where they are today.
