My Bike Tour Across Romania, Serbia and Bosnia - Steep Climbs, Snow Covered Passes & New Friends

Discover my best bicycle touring secrets inside my book, "The Bicycle Touring Blueprint" ► http://www.bicycletouringbook.com In the summer of 2015, I (Darren Alff) rode my bicycle from Brasov, Romania to Tuzla, Bosnia - passing through Serbia along the way. While the video episodes you see here were originally published on the Bicycle Touring Pro YouTube Channel as individual video blogs, I have compiled all of the episodes into this one long video, so now you can watch all of the vlog episodes from my 2015 bike tour across Romania, Serbia and Bosnia. Follow along as I make up and over the Transfagarasan highway, make a new friend with a German man named Bernd, find a snake hiding inside one of my bicycle panniers, and cycle across Serbia and Bosnia with a Bicycle Touring Pro reader named Marko. Hi, really enjoy your video. Seem very tough riding with bicycle. Why don't use scooter? Save time, energy!

What a ride...!

I understand the whole long hair , bus seat subject , very much the same

Was it my eyes or was that one Romanian guy riding what looked like a department store triple crowned full suspension bike?
If so, props to him, that thing alone must weigh near 40lbs. Not tomention the inevitable aggravation of dealing with inexpensive components.
Lol, you dont have to spend a ton on a touring bike but folks, please, avoid department store bikes. Get someone with knowledge on bikes and buy a good 90s hardtail or rigid mountain bike. They usually have all the braze ons and parts are quite common(MTBing exploded at that time). They are relatively light, cheap and robust with well made Japanese components.
I see very nice, borderline collector bikes for $200 here in Canada that were $1200 new. The catch admittedly is you really need to know what to look for as far as how beat components are. -
Good on you Darren. Intresting journey along the way. You must be so fit from all that cycling. You can afford to eat a lot of pizza! Lol! :) I would freak out if I found a snake in my tent! Happy traveling! :)

Excellent stuff! Thanks for putting this together. I'm slowly prepping for my own first bike tour and you have no idea how helpful and inspirational well-done videos like this are. Much appreciated!

Great video. Could you pls tell me if you need a visa every time you cross a boarder of those countries? Or if there is a special law for the bicycle traveling?

It´s really nice that you offer this movie-like format as well, thanks Darren.
P.S. Schwalbe Marathon, I can´t remember the last time I got a flat. -

The people you meet along the way made this tour even more special. Bern and Marko in particular were brilliant!
Do you meet many solo female bike tourers? I'd love to explore these areas by bike and wonder if I'd be a strange sight. -
Great video.....

I have 1 question : how do you do your filming of you coming up on the camera/away from it or along side? Do you have a film crew or something?
