Irrespective of body style, they all use the same Twin Came engine, design, regardless of cubic inch displacement from the 88 to the 110 CVO, models. And anyone who knows the Twin Cam engine, insides, knows that it is a fatally flawed design: No Metal Gear Drive to operate the 2 cams, but, rather a Silent or Roller Chain Drive, with it's "Achilles Heel", use of 2 PLASTIC (nylon) cam chain tensioners, which are designed to wear out and have to be replaced, period. It's a PLASTIC shoe pad, which rubs against the Metal Chain.........and failure to replace a worn tensioner, will result in an immediate and catastrophic engine failure, due to metal to metal contact and metal shavings which will be inducted into the oil pump, crankcase and cylinders, resulting in cratering the engine. Another weak point is the heart of the beast, the crankshaft.......unlike the previous single cam, EVOLUTION engine design, which used a bolted together crankshaft to keep the crankshaft from twisting out of true and cratering the engine, all Twin Cam engines produced from '99 to the present (2016), use a pressed together crankshaft, nothing holds the halves together, and on a hit or miss, basis, they have been known to twist and crater the engine. All Twin Cam engines, run, extremely hot, as in high heat output, due to an inadequate, stock, oil pump, which only pumps out, 3-8 psi of oil pressure at idle, thus necessitating a rear cylinder heat shield and a rear cylinder, Cut Off sensor, to turn off the rear cylinder at idle, to keep the family jewels from frying.........it's the only air cooled engine on the market, with where a rear cylinder has to be turned off at idle.......due to a heat management problem. Try to change out a left side belt on the final drive belt, and get ready to spend some serious cash, due to having to tear apart the entire primary drive, and swing arm assembly to change it out. The only modern Harley, which is a great bike, which will give many years of reliable service is the XL1200 Sportster, which uses the EVOLUTION engine design and uses a METAL GEAR DRIVE to operate it's 4 cams, no PLASTIC, in critical engine components there, and uses a bolted together crankshaft. And no engine heat management problems........and the right side final belt drive, makes changing out a drive belt, easy, quick, and inexpensive. A great Harley to own.............JUST SAYING, in my opinion. Know what you are buying without putting on Rose Colored glasses........fellow bikers, and Harley lovers.......
