Pedestrians in New York City Bicycle Lanes: an Observation + a Solution

The addition of more and more miles of protected bicycle lanes in New York City is exciting indeed. But with the bicycle lanes comes a side effect: a special breed of pedestrian that seems to think the bike lanes are an expansion of the sidewalk. I offer a solution.

That is why I don't use the Eighth Avenue bike. I am tired of telling people to get out of the way. I ride all the way to the Bronx.

I agree that these people are being foolish , but what about the bikers who do not respect the pedestrians right of way and half way run over them?

@Adam No, helmets are not mandatory in NYC.

How about a pack of cyclists using the bike lane at about 60mp/h, ie like your snow plough solution. By the way, are bike helmets not mandatory in NYC?

Am I the only one that thought they saw a cop in amongst that crowd walking in the bike lanes? On another note - George, you are looking very dapper there. Such a handsome man. Thanks for posting.
