Voltaic Fuse Solar Charger & iSound Portable PowerMax Fuse Solar Charger Amazon http://amzn.to/13foggN i.Sound Portable Power Max with 16,000 mAh Amazon http://amzn.to/13MW8F5 Voltaic Fuse Solar Charger 1 Year Review by: Bicycle Touring Pro http://bit.ly/13jfRrB For Tablets & Laptops you'll need the bigger 10W system- http://www.voltaicsystems.com/fuse10w.shtml *NOTE - In the video, at that time I thought the Fuse Solar Panel would charge the iSound PowerMax- It Will NOT charge it. The panel is 12V as is the ac charger for the iSound however it will not charge the battery. I am going to try and locate an adaptador- it should work. I will post a follow up but until then I don't recommend you try it.

I run my dynohub to a USB output, which I can use to charge a battery. I previously had something like the iSound, 16000 mAh, about $120. After 2 years of using it regularly I never discharged it beyond halfway but the battery plug was damaged and could not be repaired, so I needed to replace it with something else.
In the spirit of the Mintyboost charger, I ended up replacing it recently with the rechargeable PortaPow AA USB Battery pack ($15) and some AA rechargeable batteries. It's slightly smaller than my phone and very light. It only a 8000 - 8400 mAh capacity with NiCd batteries, but as I mentioned before my testing indicated that would be fine. This introduces flexibility in that 1) you can pull the AA or AAA batteries out and use them for something else, like battery powered taillights or a flashlight, 2) you can pull in to any gas station and buy some more disposable batteries if you need power right now and haven't been able to charge your existing batteries yet and 3) the batteries themselves are easily replaceable if they wear out or become damaged. I'm pretty bad with battery maintenance so the last one was a big draw for me. Only things I don't like about it are the power button is easy to accidentally press accidentally, and the cover slides open (I put two elastic bands around the cover and now it doesn't slide open).
The usual benchmark for high power consumption devices that charge by USB are the new Apple phones. This charges an iPhone 5 no worries. -
Thanks to your review I decided to buy both the Isound 16000 mah power pack and the Voltaic Solar panel. I got the 6 watt solar panel for the same price as the 4 watt. I do long distance bicycle riding myself and they both are going to come in handy. I have been doing alot of research but your review was the one that helped me make my choices. Thanks for sharing. very helpful.
