Public Transport Bicycle, Heerlen (Netherlands)
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
The railway station in Heerlen (Netherlands) is one of the over 250 locations in the Netherlands where you can rent the shared bicycles of the extremely successful bike share program OV-Fiets. This is an unattended bicycle parking facility (privately owned bicycles can be parked there too) so the rental process is completely automated.

Dat zijn wel heel oude beelden. :-) Herkende de omgeving nauwelijks; hier verrijst de nieuwe stationsomgeving inmiddels.

+Covidiu You need a Dutch bank account in order to use these bicycles. You probably would be learning Dutch if you are in a position that you would have a Dutch bank account. But a pocket translation book or memorizing a few words should be sufficient, or at least asking someone around you what that means. 90% of the Dutch speak good English even though the accent is usually quite pronounced.

Can you rent an OV-fiets with brakes on the handlebars?

The process of getting a bike at the facility is probably not so much of a hassle, I can understand that getting the special card that gains acces to the bike-parkings will be a hassle: I couldn't find a button that translates the pages to english: the system is up to the job to specify a different country. The pass itself is valid for a year and runs non-stop unless you give notice you want to stop using OV-fiets. Have a look and see for yourself if it's difficult ov-fiets.nl

Is it difficult to do if you don't know Dutch?

Do any of their bikes have hand-brakes? I'm so used to them rather than back peddling.
