Retro Wheels vs New Wheels - How Have Modern Bicycle Wheels Evolved?
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Are modern wheels better than old school wheels? We took a couple of sets out on the road to compare. Click here to subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN A lot has changed in the field of wheel design. Much of this change has come about thanks to advances in carbon fibre engineering, allowing wheels to be lighter and stiffer than their aluminium forefathers. Fewer spokes, wider tyres and deeper section rims have come as a result of a greater investment in the study of bike aerodynamics. 19mm tyres are now pretty much unheard of for professionals and amateurs alike these days. Cyclists have always worried too much about the aerodynamic qualities of their bike components when the biggest single drag is the cyclist themselves. Of course using drop bars will lower your profile significantly, but the next next big gain will be made be turning the seat 90 degrees and using a tiller style handlebar. We call it Pharaohdynamics!

bunch of douches with that spandex

36 spokes on this wheel, not 32 ;-)

-
I really thought one of the drawings was going to be a gentleman's sausage, lol.

I will keep my alu 32 spoke wheels and catch you at the traffic lights

Modern wheels can be better and cost FAR more then top end wheels 40 years ago.
I rode retro wheels like here many years ago. They are quite nice really. With sew ups and light rims they accelerated well and felt great and were not terribly expensive. -
No disc brakes please. Don't try to cut the noses off the pro please.

#0:36 I've counted and pretty sure that there are 36 spokes rather than 32 :)

How did he puncture the tire?
-
Wondering why they still don't run internal hub brakes for aero reasons. Eliminates the disc and calipers at once
