Riding a bike in Japan PT 1
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Here is some info on biking and bikes in Japan. It is based on my experience and my opinions.....hope you find it informative...Thanks! Check the video responses for more updates to biking in japan as I make them. Good site for bike shops and rentals in Tokyo: http://cycle-tokyo.cycling.jp/shops.html Nalsima Frend (sic) is a popular racing bike shop very near Shinjuku. They have a good range of top end frames and accessories, prices are good for Japan (although given current exchange rates it's cheaper to buy things in the US or Europe) and service is excellent. It can get crowded on weekends though. The shop is a 3 minute walk from Kita-Sando Station on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, or a 9 minute walk from either Sendagaya Station (JR Sobu Line), Harajuku Station (JR Yamanote Line) or Kokuritsu-kyougijyo Station (Oedo Subway Line). All these lines run from Shinjuku. Address: 2-2-4 Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 151-0051 Tel: 03-3405-9614 Hours: 1200 - 1930 (closed Wed. and Thu.) www.nalsimafrend.jp/ (Japanese only)

So, is the average mamachari sturdy enough to handle an extra human on the luggage rack?
-
for hauling shit, just build a trailer. not too hard.

I'm actually in Japan and am planning on getting a bike...so this is very helpful, thanks!
-
@ImprogoStudio - Thanks. That's good information & it all makes sense.

Does the headlight HAVE to have a generator? Can't i use the same type of headlight like your tail-light(I don't know how it's called)

@BelloBudo007 the old way of thinking in japan was through this bushido code, although it was the way of the warrior type thing in the past it has become a way of living, taking responsibility of your actions. Japan has one of the LOWEST crime rates in the world. Sometimes deliveries are left out on the street for a couple hours and never ever touched, same with bikes. Also this cultural lifestyle allows for them to have so many of the vending machines they have outdoors.

@japanlove4rmcali - Is there anyone who can answer this? I'd like to know too because I'm seriously thinking about hiring a bike next time I'm in Japan and would hate having it stolen.

Its all about the madone....... Or cervelo p3

cool bike ^_^

why is a kick stand so odd to people? It is likely Americans making bikes toys in their minds... not real transportation. Great video! I need to visit Japan one day.

Sick vid

Nice video - very informative - but that isn't really a tail light like you'd have to have on a bike in the UK; it's just a reflector. PS Like your bike!

@etegg11 The base bike still goes for 1200.00 USD here... I paid 800.00 USD for the bike in USA and maybe 50.00 to ship as part of a larger lot.

@eldictator1 There are many styles of folding bikes here from really cheap to actual mini racers with nice drive trains and fancy disc brakes. I like my big frame bike so I have to deal with a bulky bag if I travel.
