Thanks for the info ! Great video. I'm thinking to buy a flat bar road bike, what would you think about flat bar road bikes ? I guess, it'll feel like hybrid bikes while going faster than those. Having more control in a city where many bumps on the road and situations filled with forcing you to go on the pedestrian pavements. (I'm actually looking for fast hybrid bikes too, couldn't decide)

The Vilano range in america, is made at a much lighter, affordable price, and better quality, good enough to be used on team events or compitition races.

I'm mainly a montainbiker, but I intend to buy a cheap road bike for training and commute, Do you have any advice on that?
-
If I'm only going to use the bike for going to/from school would there be a cheaper option? Also would I need the pedals and shoes as mentioned in this video?

Thanks for the video folks! Some simple but easy to overlook tips. I'm an avid mountain biker looking to get my first road bike for commuting and recreational use but I forgot there was so much to think about!

I'm considering about buying a road bike as my commuter to work, but I live in Jakarta, which is one of the most unfriendly road for cyclist, the road has many pothole, gravel, speed trap, and so on. I'm thinking to get Giant Defy 3 2012, any advice for the road problems? Should I using a specific tires? Thanks

I am thinking about getting a road bike. So far I have test rode the specialized secteur ($700) and was also looking at the giant defy 5 ($500). I live in Hawaii and there are some bad roads at times so I was considering the cyclocross Felt F65X as well ($1700). I am also interested in possible getting a different Felt bike like the Z100 or a Cannondale. What do you guys think?

Love my Giant TCR2 but maybe a Bit pricey 😄850€

Another vote for Decathlon/B'Twin Triban 3. The red one is outstanding value for money but hard to find now. Mine has done almost 4000 miles since August 2013 and is still going strong. Only issues I've had have been my own fault, general wear that you'd expect after that distance or caused by the 2 accidents I've had. The white T3 is still a great deal though upgrading to a carbon fork is worth it, or up your budget slightly to the Triban 5, still under £500. The new range is out the 500SE looks great, sits between the T3 and T5.
A bonus with the B'Twin bikes is the amazing customer service from Decathlon, as well as a lifetime warranty on the frame, stem and handlebars. -
Get a Decathlon Triban 3 if you can! Brilliant bike, the red version is no longer in stock but found a great one on Ebay, £240 and only weighs 9.8kg, done around 300 miles on it so far, brilliant, no problems.
