Visited the Specialized Bicycles headquarters in Morgan Hill California, got a tour from one of the product leads named Scott Stroot. We checked out new Body Geometry products including bottles, saddles, helmets and bikes (as well as electric bikes). We got to check out some of the new Flux lights that direct light down towards the road and the Stix lights that are designed to be easy and quick to use on any bike. Scott also showed me the SWAT (storage, water, air and tools) storage boxes that can be used to store tubes, patch kits and extra air. Some of the helmets have extra wide slots in the back called a “hairport” for women who have ponytails. We talked about how long you can keep a helmet before replacing it and showcased a couple with integrated lights. In addition to the new stuff we also toured the Specialized museum area and saw a bunch of fun prototypes. A big part of the even is the internal trade show for bike, I was amazed at how many different models Specialized sells… One of the coolest road bikes I saw was the new Diverge which has thru axles and disc brakes as well as wider tires. The new Specialized Turbo X has a seat post suspension in addition to the suspension fork. The new base model. Specialized was started in 1974 when the founder Mike Sinyard began importing products from Italy and then making tires (one was called the Turbo!)
