Sub-300cc Sporty Bike Shootout

The Lightweight Nakeds Comparo we did last September was such a hoot we decided to do it again on a few more little thumper/screamers. Flying around sunny SoCal’s freeways and mountain roads like little white blood cells fighting pathogens and boredom in your cardiovascular system is what we do best, flitting from Starbucks to Starbucks, letting the lattes fall where they may. The Honda CB300F came out on top of the last small heap, not too surprisingly, so we decided we needed to throw the new, fully faired CBR300R into the ring against the littlest Ninja – a classic Single vs Twin sporting matchup – which also gave us the chance to see how the recently discovered, made-in-Taiwan SYM T2 250i measures up against the best from Japan. The “Symfighter” belonged with the nakeds, really, but ours is not a perfect world. It’s close though. Consider this our sacrifice to help those of you experiencing the “wicked blizzahd” back east we’re hearing about on the interwebs. hahahahahaha WTF -
Should have waited to film this, with the RC390 and R3 coming out.

I'm not clear on the marketing strategy here. My first bike was a new '78 CB400 Hawk that cost around $2,500. Now they are making 300's that cost twice that because the manufacturers are trying so hard to make them "sporty". I'm not sure entry-level riders care that much about peak performance. Make it cheap, reliable, & easy to ride and let the sport riders buy 650;s.

What about the R3?
-
Just went from canada where these bikes are way too small. to bali indonesia where these are almost too big!!!.
one this suprised me alot= im having more fun on a scooter on tight roads in bali than i do at home on my hayabusa -

nice 1...how about reviewing on benelli tnt 300.... ^^
-
Since you got the sym would've been nice if you also brought the new GD250 along.
-
Wait till these bikes are 5 years old, the Honda and Kawasaki will hold some value, the Sym will be sold for spares or repairs by that time. Just from what I've seen here in the UK, we've had these bikes here for a while now. Not bad for a new bike but they seem to tire easily and rain is not their friend, they tend to rust away very quickly. (disposable bikes as my brother-in-law keeps saying.).
-
Shoulda added the honda cb300f as well just for comparison sake to the cb300r. I only have about 5k to play with & need a bike, can anyone else make a suggestion_along_these_bikes
