I'm gonna try and be humble about this. And no, I don't feel I'm better than a person on a box store bike. But I do truly feel it necessary to point out the glaring differences between people farting around on one of these....."bikes" (FYI: in the cycling community we call box store bikes BSO's which stands for bicycle shaped object, because we don't feel they deserve to be called bicycles). Anyway, the reason so many people are anti cycling AS A WAY OF LIFE & PRIMARY TRANSPORTATION....is because they themselves own these type of shit BSO's. As a result they superimpose their own experience, physical ability & caliber of "bicycle" on to a well seasoned experience inner city vehicular cyclists such as myself. When they see me on the road all they can think and remember is how hard it is for them to ride their BSO. But what many don't understand is.....YOU NEVER EVEN WENT OVER THE DAMN BIKE! So they are (the rare times they ride it) are chugging around on half inflated tires, poorly adjusted brakes, and a bone dry chain drive WHICH BTW, they never even shift!!! So many will buy "cool looking" box store bikes with all the gears and full suspension. But then never use the shifters and have the nerve to wonder why riding is so hard. The BLACKRIDER is set up like a palet jack. True is heavy....buy damn does she ever glide like ice! It part of the reasons my big ass is able to commute in and out of multi cities all day long. Now it is true that no matter the cost of a bicycle it will only go as fast as it's rider is able to pedal. But with a real bicycle from a certified local bike shop lile Beacon (or any other it doesn't have to be only them), will provide you with the right bicycle that meets your commuting needs. Otherwise the car addicted will continue to only see a big guy on a bike that's as hard to ride as their own....when in reality I'm a big guy on a well built Continental class touring bicycle.
