A lot can be learned from how Giant got their start - Schwinn outsourced manufacturing during the 1970s bike boom to meet demand, and Giant got more of their business over time. At one point, the US workers at Schwinn went on strike and Giant was forced to ramp up to meet the shortfall. They built 80,000 bicycles in 5 months, as a consequence the US Schwinn factory was eventually shut down, and Giant became the sole supplier. Giant eventually rose to compete with Schwinn, who went bankrupt.
