the best road bikes under £1000
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
this is a short video for someone who wants to get in to road cycling but isnt sure what bike to get. i wouldnt recommend spending under £500 on 1 even if you are starting out it will be a pile of junk, if your worried and dont want spend try a friends bike for a day or 2 because anything under 500 will be a waste of time and money. it will just out you off. so on this video is just some bikes ive hand picked ... there are lots more around under £1000 but these are my recommendations. these bikes are all alloy frames & some have carbon fibre front folks. they all have middle of the road shimano components which is more than enough for a beginner. i wont bore you with all the different specs if you want to find out more about what spec i recommend please ask below. so you are thinking of getting into road cycling ...great... this video shows reallt well built bikes for under 1k. if i had to pick a bike for a beginner it would be the giant defy. its well built has a good warranty good spec and front carbon folks (helps with handling and feel) nice set of giant stock wheels and a real nice look. but if u say hey bamboorider i dont like giants no problem all others are probably just as good. like in my other vids if your buying a bike make sure you get a professional bike fit this is very important. if you dont get 1 you will probably give up cycling in weeks trust me i have seen it so many times. even if it costs you do it. any question post um below ill help all i can :)

The planet x pro carbon and the btwin Mach 700 are much better value than these and are also full carbon and priced lower than some on the list
-
+james grainger avoid carbon unless you have alot of dough

If you aren't out and out racing, go for endurance geometry, toss up between 25 and 23 tyres but I prefer the slimmer size and avoid potholes.
Try a Cannondale Synapse; been running one for a year, alloy frame, carbon forks and Tiagra, designed to give flex in the frame stays for comfort, raised front steerer. Done coast-coast 180 miles and am 60 years of age, easier to ride than a Nephew's Forme Longcliffe and better looking than Son's Giant Defy 1, but the Defy feels lighter and a little quicker. Forme more racing position.
Only downside on the Cannondale is cheap wheels, now swapped for Shimano hubs, less trouble. Am seriously tempted by that Planet X though but need to ride one first, otherwise will spend a fortune changing stems and cranks to get a good fit. -
I feel the planet x pro carbon should be added to the list as I brought one for £999, comes very well equipped with full carbon fibre frame and forks with shimano ultegra group set and comes with lightweight aero spoke wheel so is a very lightweight bike.

Thoughts on the boardman team carbon? Carbon fibre frame, fork and steerer, shimano 105, internal cables all for £1000. Sounds too good to be true

trek 2.1, best value for money road bike out there. not on the list. Carerra Vivago, shocking quality frame, same price. on the list. I wouldnt trust this when spending £1000
-
not really a fan of that make not using the best carbon system. seems that is how they keep price dowm
-
bottom bracket is the frame between pedals. the wider that is the more push you give to the bike
-
a giant defy 5 is giants entry level beginners bike. nothing wrong with that bike just as good as any other beginners bike out there. not sure where u are in the world but that bike should be very reasonable on price, which saves wasting cash if you buy a bike and road cycling isnt for you. be sure when you buy the bike to get a pro bike fit.thats the biggest beginners mistake! god luck~!

Giant defy 5? I might be purchasing this bike in a few days. Is it a good bike?
-
Thanks...this is really good info for me to make a decision. What is the "bottom bracket?" Is that the angled tube that runs to the forks?
-
You missed out Trek 1.2... Amazing value at £700 RRP. (some places £600) Carbon forks, sora 2013 group set. alpha 100 series aluminium frame with H2 geometry. FSA cranks. Great entry level bike!

Hey!!! for stiffness that really helps up hills i would go with a trek or giant that is in your price range. if u can afford carbon go for that with it being lighter than aluminium frames. if not alu is fine. alu also helps if u crash as carbon can crack. personally i have a trek 4.5 madone carbon it flies uphills. also another thing to look for is a larger bottom bracket that will help when going up hills. when u push the bike will respond rapidly. go into a local shop and they will help :)

Hey bambooRider1....I need a recommendation ....I'm not going to be doing very long rides; I'll primarily be sprinting up steep hills in my neighborhood. So I don't want a frame that will fail......any thoughts?
-
;im not here to say if that's a good deal because i haven't seen the bike. it sounds good if the bike is in good condition and the wheels have no damage. the wheels would cost approx 600 dollars alone. what shimano groupset does it have?

I'm considering buying a GIANT DEFY 1 with upgrades including Mavic Ksyrium wheels. Approx 300 miles on the bike. It's the right size for me as well. M\L. Offered at $1000. Is that a good deal for this bike?
