Isn't this pretty much common sense? I feel like it's just a natural reaction to do this.

Trust me, Counter steering will get you killed because it's a bullshit idea. The simplest of cornering or steering is when you want want to turn right, then you steer right and lean right to compensate the steering. The steer and lean depends on your speed. If you counter steer, your probably a foolish to do that and have a fucked up day if not dead.

Booo! this clip taken straight from Twist of the wrist 2, if you are a motorcycle rider you really should watch the entire movie. or at the very least the first 45 minutes. Just do it.

Counter steer without a lean for half an hour. Lean without conscious counter steer for half an hour. Mix the two, then mix the percentages, ie: 80% lean- 20% counter steer, then reverse the percentages, then 50-50 etc. Repeat this over several weeks and your riding will improve out of sight.

Great video, easily explained! Thanks

Didn't they teach you this when you got a license?

I agree with the counter steering stuff, but...

"When we move our weight around on the bike, it actually creates a counter steering action"
That sounds like BS and it goes against the earlier part of the video that shows using weight to steer doesn't work. -
I reckon this guy is a milfhunter!

It's instinct.

I'm not an expert but there are some things not said in this video. If you ride a lightweight bike and you don't have a death grip on the bars..then just from the fact that you lean the bike towards the corner while griping the bike with your body it will make the handlebars "turn" in the opposite direction as if you were putting pressure (pushing forward on the side you want to go aka countersteering) on them. I have a lightweight Sports bike (KTM RC 390) and ive tried looking at the bars as I lean and thats what I saw when I had a loose grip on them....Now if riding a heavy bike I think you need to aid the opposite turn of the handlebars by pushing on them...basically if you are turning efficiently don't think about it...if you think you need some aid then push on the bars...that's how I see it. Peace!

im sorry but it takes counter steering and shifting your weight on the foot pegs to really flick the bike around counter steering without shifting your weight on the pegs es like the difference between power steering and no power steering on a car

Don't you learn this when you are 5 on your first bicycle?
-
Counter steering initiates a lean and then the rider, without realizing it turns the bars in the direction of the lean. You can turn a bike with out counter steering as long as you initiate the lean first.
-
after 500 videos i still dont get this.
-
technically the arrow goes left because of where its hinged at on the bars so of course its going to do the oposite if what you do. you turn ALONG with lean to do a proper turn. so before any of you trolls say you dont know how to ride ive been riding since i was 9
-
most of the times we do this without realising
-
Please don't take counter steering for granted just because you have been riding for such a long time, you must have experiential knowledge of this steering technique because you could get into trouble one day, please watch this video and learn how important this is, https://youtu.be/ZUWViatY_LA

so countersteering is only necessary for fast turning with high speeds in curves? for normal driving normal steering is enough right?
