Cycling seems to be a very macho culture
-
the big companies are trying to drive the market towards disc but it wont catch on becasuse the pros wont use them. These guys are just salesman not cyclists
-
it appears that we are moving from human powered cycling to wallet driven cycling........................................

I bought my first carbon racer last year (£900); when I go up hill on it I still need to puff like fuck the same as I did with my old steel mountain bike.

As with any hobby/sport you can spend what you want. You can spend £40 on a pair of shoes or over £300. Same with all components of the bike. I bought most my cycling gear from Aldi, it's cheap and comfortable. I just didn't want to spend a fortune on tops or jackets etc. Same with stuff for my bike. I got a boardman team carbon ltd edition 2013 bike, it came with a 105 group set on it. If you can look past the whole "Halfords" thing I think it's a decent bike. It's comfortable and in my opinion it looks good. Now, I'd love to put a SRAMs etap on it, but then you'd need the sram group sets, then I'd want new wheels and before you know your £1000 bike would have £3000 worth of upgrades. The bike question is "will it make my relaxed rides with my mate any better?" Probably not that much. I'm not a pro by any stretch, in fact I'm getting old and fat lol. What you need to ask yourself is what you want the bike for, the biggest difference is your fitness level, not the bike

lets make it happen

These bikes are only for rich people ... I-ll never be able to afford one :(
-
I love the growing and innovative world of cycling we live in.

The "BEST" bike is the bike that FITS. And bike fit is ALL about EFFECTIVE TOP TUBE LENGTH, not the height of the seat tube. And I ride 28s because there's NO disadvantage and every advantage. Disc brakes are nice and a mechanical disc brake is simpler than hydraulic but has a slight loss of modulation. But mechanical is just so less hassle and the weight penalty for non-competitive riders is insignificant.
-
So what was the bike of the year?
-
I have disc brakes in my cheap hybrid and they are dragging. They need to be adjusted so they won't do that. I don't want that to bike, which I use only at summer. For winter conditions those hydraulic disc brakes give a lot.
-
I'd love some more info on cheaper bikes, $500 or less/$1000 or less, and adventure/gravel bikes
-
I'd suggest you do some maths, chaps - disk brakes do in fact exert more power, because they do it over a far smaller area...about 25 times more than calipers.

on it never end tenk for the inf

aluminium should make a comeback and hopefully it ll keep the price lower for the masses. Bikes like the CAAD12 is a good example.
-
these are just not affordable at all.
-
It's no future. It's marketing.
-
I`d like to see some freedom regarding bike frames in races so eg. recumbents could paricipate
-
They should do a video on the best bikes in history.
