It all really started when I met some very special people whilst filming the first films of the project in Bristol in December 2008. One of those persons was Emma. We kept in touch over the coming months and I told her how I wanted to leave my freelance work so I could concentrate on the documentary project. Emma then offered me a rent-free room in her house in Bristol, an offer to good to refuse, and I began the preparations to make the move from London. I decided my main mode of transport for the project would be bicycle, it was environmentally friendly, lost cost and fun, and to set it off on the right foot I thought Id attempt to cycle (approximately) the 130 mile journey. On May 3rd I set off from my London houseboat. I had 35Kg of possesions left to my name tied up in a neat little bicycle trailer with a sunflower on it! This included camera equipment, camping gear, and clothing. It was an adventure that took me along the A4 and then through a series of towpaths. It is a different world down by the canal. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and devoid of traffic noise and modern day kaos. I was immersed in lush green surrounds, sometimes canopies of trees that climbed over the whole canal. It was the height of spring and everything was at its most colourful, houseboats painted the countryside and there was an abudance of wildlife at play in this garden of Eden. The effects were obvious on the people who were there to enjoy it, just about every soul you came across either stopped for a chat or wished me well, with a smile and a hello it was truly magic.
