Top 10 Iconic Road Bikes
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
We pick the bikes that we think have had the biggest impact on cycling over the years and that have truly iconic status. Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/gcnsubs Starting with a modern classic, the Cervelo R3, and moving on to encompass the bikes that have left their mark on cycling through the ages. We pay tribute to the iconic orange frames of Eddy Merckx, the celeste of Fausto Coppi's Bianchi, and the Mapei colour scheme of their Colnago C40s. Bikes that changed the technological landscape are also included on this list, the Lotus track bike for example, and Mike Burrows' other great invention, the compact road framed Giant TCR. All these, and more, in the GCN Top 10 iconic bikes. Let us know which ones you'd like to see. Mercks started his own bicycle company post retirement, his importance was such that he was readily allowed to have his images put on his competition frames, both by the frame builders and Molteni (his sponsors during his hayday) just to let you know.

-

-
Eddy Merckx orange road bike and Renault Gitane Fignon's trial bike and Vie Claire's first look bike honourable mention for Moser's hour record bike because it was a break through in every term for trial, road, track bikes at least 2 decades
-
The Alan SuperRecord... it's like the grandmother of lightweight bicycles. It was the first all aluminum frameset from aerospace grade aluminum, no welding, and it was the first pro road bike under 20 pounds. I think it deserves to be in this list.

AND BIANCHI PANTANI ???
-
Great concept for a video. So much to comment on but first to mind Merckx Team SC, Lotto Domo, next Pantani Bianchi and what about those nasty looking Specialized Tarmac's the Lion King rode in on.
-
Bianchi, being around longer than any other bicycle manufacturer on the planet, along with their timeless Celeste color, is ICONIC as it gets.
-
that is NOT a Colnago Master... it is a Colnago Super (0:45)
-
EDDY MERCKX CYCLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
From 0'37'' to 0'54'' isn't that a Colnago Mexico? As Giuseppe Saronni definitely rode a red Mexico for his Worlds title in 82, Goodwood not unlike that one in the picture...
Masters have all 3 main tubes of the front trapeze longitudinally dented, Mexicos just the downtube...
Apart from that, perfect collection! -
Look KG 281
-
think it was the cervelo r3 cause ihave it and it was fast
-
The Lotus bike. That was truely a revolutionary gamechanger.

What about Cannondale CAAD3 ?

No. 1: the Colnago Master. It's a steel bike that's still being made long after alloy and carbon frames have taken over. It's not just a lark of Colnago's; they stopped making the Master, and enough people wanted them that they had to start making them again.
I believe the Master and the C60 are the only ones Colnago still makes in Italy now.
