hi,. I ride with walking shoes/trainers as they are waterproof and durable... ideal or not? plus I have a marida big nine 600 I use it to commute now I wanna try ride trials as I've come from a Motocross/enduro back ground and sold my motorbike's. would xc be the discipline I attempt??
thanks. -
Not disagreeing at all but once I got the hang of mountain biking using platform pedals and, yes, old running shoes, I graduated to clipless shoes BUT practicing with platforms gave me the confidence and I road cycle with clipless as well. Much more enjoyment using the clipless shoes and my skills actually improved markedly. Really a lot more fun rather than mostly cautious riding. Just commenting so that all the platform and skate shoe users might want to reconsider ...

So I started out mountain bike riding right away using clip pedals. Should I go back and replace them with a set of flat platform pedals and ride that way for a while? I have terrible confidence riding doing the difficult technical stuff because I always think I'm going to fall or that I can't unclip. A lot of times when I'm riding really slow I wish I could dab the ground with my foot but I can't because I'm clipped in.

ive always rode platform pedals id be paranoid about not getting my feet out of clipless

Skimping on tires, don't do it! Get branded ones, even the budget branded ones will outperform any Asda/halfrauds mystery rubber

1:20 This happened to e the other day. I couldn't believe how exhausted this hill made me. I had to lay down and consider stopping for the day before I ate a banana and felt like new.

They are called clip less yet you have to CLIP in

Great clipless pedals for beginners would be Straitline Defacto Platform Pedals. They are seriously wide pedals with 14 pins on each side. They are however, seriously expensive. $160 - $180 CDN. But worth every penny. I swear by them on both my DH and DJ.

I'm a beginner mountain biker and I have ride a hard tail bike. I've been riding with the small clipless peddles with the hard carbon shoes. The guys at the bike shop recommend it knowing that I'm a beginner. I thought it was difficult but I've been sticking with it. I'm thinking I should switch to flats. I still feel uncomfortable with the clipless I have. Do you have any advice for me?
