I just bought a Triumph 5 speed . I don't know how to date it . The shifter is located on the frame right behind the neck . It has kind of a wingnut on it to lock it whatever gear you put it in . It is very similar to these .

Sweet bikes, in beautiful condition. Classics that will likely last long after we're dust. I stil have my Tri 10 speed from the 70's- great bike, dependable, fast enough for my 65 year old knees, & all original. Lots of miles (Km. now) and never let me down. There is an allure about something mechanical, well cared for, still functional, & with the aesthetic beauty to go with it. Like old steam engines. Aren't bikes one of the worlds greatest inventions? Thanks for posting. -Bill in Canada
