Hey I like your style, very nice.
I just finished making my little film of a similar thing I did around England, I could call it one bike , one man, no plan, just get round : )
I just had my second hand bike some cheap panniers but a belief i could do it and learnt that packing is all about light weight and only the essentials.
have a look if you would like

Some cities and states encourage bikes.......... they provide safe walking and biking lanes and trails. Cities also should encourage businesses and apartments to provide safe places to lock or store a bicycle. Encourage your elected officials to do more. Speak up.. become an advocate for bicycle use in your city.

Like the vid and i subscribed the channel

one other important must have: a high quality bicycle that doesn't break down. i just did a trip - not that long actually, only about 16 miles - and my bike broke. it's not very pleasant when you have to walk rest of the way. so it's smart to make sure your bike is in good shape before going on a longer trip.

How did you carry a mattress on a bike?

Wonderful! Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to try Sunset State Park.

Sorry for late reply! It was my first time bike camping and we didn't have enough time to bike the entire route. Sometimes time/location/experience dictate multi-modal trips.

Im gonna plan my first bike camp here in the philippines.,

I just a trial run from Milpitas to Capitola via old high Santa Cruz with an old MTB. It was not easy. The hardest part was from the end of Lexington res. toward summit. It's only probably 8 miles but all uphill. My MTB has 11-28 rear and 24/34/38 front which wasn't really good for climbing. If you have bigger back gear like 32t and smaller front like 22 then that would help. I'll switch to 11/32 and 22/32/42. After summit it's all downhill until capitola. You can bike camp at new brington

i just carry everything in my backpack, take a train, and go mountain biking + minimalist stealth camping in the woods ...even more simple than this :p

FYI, if you wanted to go slower, or just need a different place to stay, Sunset State Park in Watsonville has a Hiker/Biker site for $5 a night, no reservations required. Also, there is a new bus from Monterey to Santa Cruz with bike carriers for $3.50.
