VanMoof just made the Tesla of bicycles
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
VanMoof is a company from Amsterdam that wants to change everything about bikes. That starts with the Electrified S, a bike with an electric motor and a whole bunch of smart features, including embedded radios that can help the company track down the bike if it gets stolen. And if you don't want a bike with a motor, the company just unveiled the SmartBike — a cheaper, lighter version of the Electrified S with the motor stripped out. I've bought but returned my vanMoof electrified S after 3 weeks:
I love the design, it's a beautiful bike but.....
- the battery is very limited. max 20-25 km range with maximum support. it drains way too fast.
- it deals very bad with headwind or uphill (even a small bridge). The power of the motor is very limited.
- the automatic shifting of the gears is far from subtle and not comfortable.
- squeaking brakes. They are not hydraulic but lesser quality mechanical disc-brakes
- Lights won't work when the battery is down. So when your battery is dead you can't drive safe on muscle power in the dark.
- using the touchscreen is very limited, difficult when driving and doesn't work smooth.
- the functionality of the app is very limited.
- the vanMoof support is slow, inadequate and unprofessional
Overal in my experience the bike is still "under construction" and way overpriced. The price/quality ratio is poor! It doesn't live up to the hype. -
Not counting the monitoring costs

How meny watts is the motor? If it has any. This is a prank right?
-
3k for a punny 350w front hub motor is a bit too steep, custom designed components means expensive maintenance costs. Id rather have a bosch or a custom built bafang

Great bike ;)

I bought used one good condition Mountain bike on Ebay for 30 & works perfectly with 5 gear modes. Now considering this price of 2000 be fair, my bike has to get stolen 66 times (& it happened once in 25 years). So I will pass :D

4:07 VanMoof likes to add some cool audio effects to stress the comparison to "stupid bikes" lol

Meh... I prefer my sondors :)

2000-3000? Get an xtracycle instead.

Can you do one on the rad Rover?

This is so much nicer than the bulky batteries electric bikes usually have! And I love the safety mechanisms. Can it be transferred so you can resell them when you want an upgrade? How long until you need to replace them? How many miles?

I do believe that this bike has a 250w motor, which is so so. I prefer the Stromer brand instead, better bike, better components, faster.. VanMoof needs to upgrade their motor on their bike, also its a front wheel drive based system :(

Can't wait till I start working so I can buy all this cool stuff
-
It won't happen "in a couple of years," until the price becomes affordable
-
When do we get self-steering bicycles?
-
Customisation? and "about 1000$ less"
-
New $300 bike, + $700 BBSHD motor Kit, + $650 battery = $1650 for a 40mph bike that goes 30 miles at 20mph without pedaling. Oh and this $300 bike has front wheel suspension at the minimum. All the tools to diy cost $39.95 on amazon in a single toolbox.

Watching through the video I was so positive about the price of the bike and when the verge guy told that you guys wanna make a difference in the way people look at these electric bikes as expensive, I was like damm this bike is not gonna be expensive and will fit my budget and then he says 3k and 2k for 2 different models and I was like this is definitely not the Tesla of bikes.
