Victoria Police busting Lane Splitting bikes on Melbourne's Eastern FWY

26-09-2013 on the way home from work on Melbourne's Eastern Freeway about 5.00pm, there was a KTM Motard Plain Cop bike, busting Motorcycles for Lane Splitting, here are two victims of this revenue raising. See the Copper smash down the Emergency Lane flat out in an extremely safe manner, not, chasing the poor bloke who had just split past my left hand-side in a slow and sensible manner. Then the Copper blocks the Emergency Lane on the other side of the Freeway which causes the Bus, which can use the emergency lane in Peak Hour, to force its way back into the traffic to get around the Copper and the poor sod who got pulled over. You see the bus after it gets back into the emergency lane after the Copper, because it is all about safety kiddies! Glad I did not ride today!!

Come September 2015 it's going to be re-legalised in Melbourne to lane filter. Finally someone high up saw the sense of allowing motorcyclists to lane split. It's only the impatient car drivers who complain it's not fair that the motorcyclists aren't waiting their turn off staying stuck in traffic. But if more people ride motorcycles and lane split, there'd be less cars on the road seeing as usually it's only one person per car anyway. And therefore less traffic. They'll still get upset though.

Good, I'm glad he got busted. I don't have a problem with motorbikes cutting in BACKED UP traffic that is NOT MOVING. When they're doing it while the traffic is going, it is a real hazard. And to those saying that this cop is dumb, if you're going to BLAME anyone for busting him, blame the law system, not the cop.

Completely agree, Lane Splitting is Safer, as it reduces the instances of rear end collisions with motorcycles, and faster than staying in the queue with all the cars. It also reduces general traffic congestion, which in the end helps all road users. But welcome to Beigtoria where the infringement notice is more powerful than common sense.

Honestly what the fuck does this cop think he is achieving? Does he want all motorbikers back in cars the make the traffic worse? Lane splitting should be encouraged to show others you can get in and out of the city better on a bike than a car.
