Wow, I built an electric bike in 2003 and have a video of it in action called, Electric Horse(tm), electric bike. Jay Leno did not like it, neither did any other deep pocket person, they were busy investing in the Segway and other stupid rich people stuff.

Most States limit the wattage of e-bikes to 1000 watts, or less! And, police officers will stop you for speeding in the bike lane! These legal limitations make it far easier to register your e-bike with the DMV, so you won't need to stand trial, before a judge! Similar, but different, State legislation applies to pocket bikes and other custom internal combustion bikes! So, don't take Californian's word for it! Check your local policies, first!

ouch 5000$ you can build one thats way better for that kind of money
-
Excellent designs.
-
For $5000 you could buy a really nice motorcycle, with about three times the power
-
I left when I saw the skinny pants. Any dude that wears pants like a woman has nothing of interest to me.
-
love it! 👍👍
-
I was looking for one of those helments that Jay wore and the closest I could find was a ski helmet? would like to buy one
-
Imagine five of these rolling up on you...strikes fear
-
Sell them for $1200 and I'd by one.
-
These looks really cool. Like a 1920s motorcycle.
-
Sounds like Peewee Herman 0:10

5k!? I would buy me a real scooter for less!

I'm sorry but 5 grand for a bicycle is just insane. I knew and I said a decade ago when people began talking about electric bikes and how popular they would get, I told them back then to watch how fast the prices go thru the roof too! A good bicycle built with high quality materials shouldn't cost more than $1,000 (and even that is expensive) unless you're one of those speed freaks who goes out to the Bonneville Salt Flats to see how fast he can go.
Schwinn Bicycles has been around for more than 120 years and they make an excellent quality bicycle with the most expensive model costing around $1,100 and that's a damned good bicycle for purpose of your average around town cruising. You can spend around $900 for their top of the line mountain/hiking bicycling and even that's a great bicycle.
Panasonic makes their top of the line e-bike package for $1,050 and if you took that package and installed it on the top Schwinn, you're looking at roughly $2,100 for a top of the line, excellent quality and craftsmanship e-bike that will do 50 miles per charge which is excellent. Put it on charge while you're working and you've got another 50 miles to get back home, run errands, cruise thru the park, etc... Think what you could do with the other $3,000 you saved not buying one of these bicycles???!!! -
Jay's Pee-Wee impression needs to be a ringtone.
-
Really. Just buy a motocyle
-
A cost of $5k base price....what a scam......I could build the same thing for 2k easy.
-
Same price as a brand new Ninja 300. It would be more competitive at half the price
-
If you all do the research you can build your own bike for less than 800.00 dollars with a Chinese gas engine. I did.

The question is, did JL, buy one...?
