Vintage Schwinn 74180 Brake Lever Alignment Tool Demo
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
I show how to use a vintage Schwinn 74180 Brake Lever Alignment Gauge. Not a tool that you can't do without, but it does make the job of aligning brake levers to be even, a little easier and faster. **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy -Subscribe Here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=shyflirt1 -YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/RJTheBikeGuy

They should have made it so you could loosen the arms so they go down to meet the lever that you have where you want it and then adjust the other one so it touches the opposite side arm. That way you don't have to eyeball or measure the gap, either way it's a neat tool, somebody should be making them.

Its also a handlebar alignment tool.

Handy device...

rj, could you give the dimensions so one could possibly make a DIY version of this tool?

R.J. another great video..........have a question which I am sure you could answer.
I am thinking of upgrading my racing bike wheels to bladed spokes............
Can I use my existing hubs (Campagnola Daytona 36 hole front and back)
Or would I need to purchase specific hubs to accommodate the bladed spokes. -
A clever vintage solution, but I always heard it was customary to position the tips of the levers aligned with the bottom of the drops. Perhaps that's why this tool isn't made anymore?

I'd love to see some beach cruiser/chopper RJ.. But if you are not into it, cool! Love your work..
-
What!? I thought you align the lever on the side you turn the most a little bit lower than the other one...

Cool tool.
Seems like one could make an improved version that goes out onto the top of the hoods. -
That is pretty cool. :-)
