Walmart Mountain Bike Iron Horse 29" Sinister Review

Iron Horse 29" Sinister Review This is a quick review of the Iron Horse Sinister 29" MTB. In my first Mountain Biking for Beginners video, I mentioned the bikes in big box stores are not made for off-road use and they all have warning stickers to inform you of this. However, recently I was informed that wal mart started carrying a full suspension bike that did not have a warning sticker. I then received this comment from Bluerocka145 and decided to make a video to clear up what is going on. So I went to check out the inventory at a couple wal marts in town. What I found was the company that now owns the Iron Horse bike brand has started producing bikes again. However, please do not confuse these bikes for the Iron Horse bikes from several years ago. Wal mart is selling four variations of the new Iron horse sinister. The 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 6.5. If you are thinking of making the Iron Horse Sinister your first MTB starter bike, my advice is to stick with the 6.5. The quality of parts in the other three are significantly different. I took the time to personally inspect six of the Sinister 6.5s and found the quality was high enough for something I would recommend, with a few minor suggestions. Every single bike I inspected had loose bolts or cables. If you do buy one of these, I highly recommend it be given a full inspection/tune-up by a pro. The other thing I would recommend is upgrade the rear shock to something durable. It doesn't have to be done right away. But, for an extra $200, the Iron Horse Sinister 6.5 would be a nice starter bike with a proper shock. Another down side is, the bike only comes in one size, so be sure it fits you before committing to buy. People with a shorter torso or shorter arms may be able to replace the stem with one that is shorter and ride it perfectly fine. The front suspension is heavy for a 29er (4.9 lbs)... But that is expected for an entry level bike. As with all bikes, as you ride, you will want to upgrade parts. This bike is one of the lowest priced full suspension 29ers available. That means, if you don't end up sticking to the sport, you wouldn't have wasted $2000 on a new bike. If you already have a bike and are into the sport, I would recommend investing in upgrades rather than dropping $500 on this bike and still needing to make upgrades to it. Don't forget to check out our other videos for beginners to mountain biking. Thanks and have fun out there.

It is a much better idea to get a Cannondale Catylist 3

I miss when iron horses were good :(
-
unlike my 29er quarry ridge roadmaster mtb
-
I had a sinister and its not good ik because I used a flat head screw driver and a hammer and did a experiment on it to see how strong the frame is And its aluminum IG because it bends so easy
-
If your going to spend almost $600 with added shock and upgrades then just get a good brand not Walmart shit. Maybe off Craigslist

Has the same flaw as any other dept store full suspension. The main pivot is a steel bolt rotating in a plastic bushed aluminum channel. That plastic bushing wears out quickly, leaving your pivot bolt grinding on the aluminum frame. Overy time - and rather quickly - Your swing arm is swaying left and right. Walmart and other dept stores do have a "few" , somewhat, decent hardtails. Stick with those. The full suspensions are just dangerous.
However, if you want a reasonably priced bike with good quality, go for the Diamondback or GT bikes. No they're not the top of line competition bikes, but for a noobie, or casual rider, they're perfect. You can get them in the price ranges of $400 - $1200, depending on features. -
the iron horse bikes from 2000-2004 where bad ass affordable bikes, super go was a big pusher of these dual and single pivot bikes. i wish i got one instead of the piece of chet giant sshit ac-1 i bought. would of saved a grand our so. our a weyless dh good bikes for the price for srue.

My schwinn ditch 1.0 broke and I was sent the protocol 1.0 but I complained because the fork, crank and tires were all lesser quality than my old bike. They are switching me out for a sinister 6.3. You think I'll be happy with this? Being the old bike was 12 years old

Big box store bikes are worthless, you will end up spending more in the long run with BS upgrades. Just save your money and visit your LBS.

The #1 Rule when buying a mountain bike; DO NOT GO TO WALMART OR TARGET OR ANY OTHER STORES LIKE THOSE! Always buy something from your local bike store!
-
Here's one tip for all you new Mountain Bikers, NEVER BUY A WALMART BIKE!!! For this price you can get a Trek, Specialized, or Giant, these 3 brands are some of the best out there. Walmart bikes are cheapos and they will have tons of problems.

Dont pay less than 2000$ for a dual suspension bike.
Dont pay less than 1000$ for a hard tail or a road bike
Dont pay less than 500$ for a rigid commuter/city/hybrid bike.
If you can't afford these rules, save money and wait a few months. Then pick your bike. -
Wtf the ironhorse sinister 6.3 and my bike (schwinn grande 6.3) are the same

If your spending almost 500 for a bike just go with the trek marlin 5 it's only like 25 bucks more expensive than this Walmart bike and I think the marlin 6 is only 60 more Than the 5 and if you buy it at a bike shop they will usually tune it up for you for free before you leave the store and sometimes they cover the first year of tune ups at least most trek dealers I've talked to in the past week as I'm looking into getting a new bike myself

Yes pal I bought bikes from both Kmart and Walmart. It looks like the one from Kmart are well together than the Walmart. But I will do my best to buy one from the bike shop next time.Because when I visited the bike shop I can see the difference even by looking at the bikes.

Just for the record, my dad was riding with a friend on a fire road( YouTube oswalds dome downhill) its a very fast gravel road that mtbers love. My dad will go as fast as he can. Its 4.5 mile downhill, if you have enough nerve you can top 50mph. My dad has gotten to 47mph. His friend has just bought a mongoose x something 75. And reis was trying to keep up with dad when the stem tube broke from the frame, put him in the hospital in a back brace with cracked vertebra. He had put a set of sun rims, upgraded brakes, deore quick fire shifters as well as deore derailliers my dad had given him. The frame welds broke all because he didn't want to spend the extra money for a good bike!!!!
