why talk only about Nino? Fumic from Cannondale is super fast on decends also... they are all super fast. Julien too. Nino does a few seconds tops on the main guys. :) /Nino fan btw/ This is kind of like asking are DH riders fast on DH and talking only about Aaron Gwin. :)

Cross Country is about endurance and power. Coming from a skateboaring and snowboarding background I can truly understand why trail riders smile at xc riders in lycra outfits but if you focus on riding uphill and long distances lycra simply is what you want to wear. And remember: more uphill riding always means more downhill riding too. And I don't think most trail riders could ride downhill faster on a hardtail. Instead I smile at the fact that most trail riders have never ridden a hardtail mountainbike in their lives and don't know the joy of it. And now guess what the origins of mountainbiking are.

Think Nino is the exception to the rule. Also, imo think it's XC type bikes that make descending tricky - not so much the riders abilities. Spandex!? o_0

GMBN do think a internal gear hub can compete with some 11x1? Like some rohloff... sure it is more heavy but also more possible gears and come on 10.000 km is a piece of cake for that thing.
