hi

If you can't wear wool next to your skin like some people, put on a pair of panty hose,They will really keep your legs warm, As for my bike I have 2 head lamps, tail light that is also a brake light, and turn signals spaced as far apart as those on a motorcycle plus 2 mirrors, Also have a horn that is as loud as one on a car.You can't be too safe. Also get a camera so if you have an accident you have proof who was at fault

Use the same bike shoes but use packing tape to seal up the mesh areas. Thought is was kinda goofy but it does work....no more frozen feet.

how complicated can it be? I'm from the Netherlands...we just ride!

winter biking: I would love to do ti, but more gear ($) is needed and the amount of risk is too high, even though I feel confident riding in spring/fall conditions. I think I will start as 'recreational' rider (weekends) w/o the pressure to commute to work. Will see how it goes, but still even after I gain confidence there, it will still be too risky.

40 minutes for <1 min info? And some of it is misleading, like using cotton for sports?!?

Yes, you did forget something, A MIRROR I find all truly inexperienced cyclists never mention this. Just because this "teacher" rides does not make her an authority or experienced with skills developed over a lifetime.
I am a 50 year experienced cyclist, 12,000 miles per year, an x-professional rider. I have lived and cycled in many states, from Michigan at 30 below zero to Portland-cycle commuting capitol of America. With all my miles, years and experience I would NEVER bicycle commute to work…NEVER! I don't understand this promotion of placing a cyclist in extreme danger. And to commute in winter snow and ice conditions is INSANE. If you want to die, then commuting to work in the heaviest traffic, most pollution, extremely deadly road conditions, and the angriest drivers, is the best and fastest way to die. You would be safer in a war zone, this is not a joke but a fact.
Even rain water is slippery when combined with oils, coolant, and debris, but to cycle in traffic in snow and ice is beyond stupidity, it is insane. Only insane people would do this and promote it to others. Winter cycling in safe traffic free areas where your have the control to leave the road and shoulder anytime is something some may want to do, but you WILL fall / crash. The only winter bicycle I would use is not a bike, but a trike with studded wide tires. Off road cycling can be fun though and the new fat tire bikes are making it much safer. Without angry motorists and pavement/debris/chemicals, off roading in the winter is a possibility.
If you delete this comment I will make sure the cycling community hears about your deadly promotions and will do everything in my power to make you responsible for the death and injuries you sponsor. -
very informative! I'm ready to ride!

Glad to have watched this awesome presentation. I live in the Metro Vancouver area and usually bike to work during Spring and Summer - sometimes during the Fall season too. Yes, rain or shine. Biking during winter is something I have been contemplating a lot these days. Thank you very much, Ms Bevin Barber-Campbell ! You have just convinced me to bike all year round in Canada! So nice meeting you in cyberspace. And continue with your great work as Ambassador for Cycling!
