Hello,i bought used vintage handlebars with the same type of tape and they come with the long type of brakes for road bikes that are WEINMANN brand and i dont know how to pur rhe cable because tje cable that i use is that one from like a "bmx/fixie" brakes.

Have you noticed any difference in the way the spokes are laced into the hubs compared to modern hand lacing techniques?

I just wrapped the bars on my 74 Schwinn varsity, I found its much easier to do if you remove the brake lever extension handle levers so you don't have to snake the tape in between them and the bars
