Yamaha YZ250FX Review - Episode 154
bicycles reviews | bicycles videos | bicycles online
Yamaha came to market with an off road racing dirt bike that fills a large gas in their lineup. This is a bike that can be ridden in off road, GNCC style situations. It can be ridden in hare scramble races. It can do desert, it can do single track. It might not even be terrible on a motorcross track for most average riders out there. Yes, it's a bit heavier than some of the other bikes in it's class due to the e-start, but it's a solid platform and it has been very fun to test over the past few months. Hey I am 11 turning 12 and I ride a 2016 yz250

Great video... I'd love to hear your thoughts about the WR250F with the ECU competition programing kit compared to the YZ250FX. Are they effectively the same bike? If i get a great deal on a new 2015 WR, is it worth it?

What's your opinion on the removal of the kick start on the 2017 model
-
Getting the 2016 tomorrow can't wait
-
Kyle, you've been riding the bike for a good while now... Any feedback on gas mileage for typical trail riding? How does it compare to the purported 70 mpg for the WR250R?
-
Is it cheaper to make this bike green sticker legal or derestrict the WR250?
-
I got a ktm 250 4 stroke and IT has both kick start and electric start
-
it says it's the fuel tank is a little bigger than the YZ250F

I've been doing a lot of research on this bike and this, by far, was the most helpful video! I had a few questions that nobody else seemed to answer, but you did. Thanks!!

I am looking to buy a bike... I am considering 3 options:
1. YZ 250 FX
2. KTM 250 XCF
3. KTM 350 XCW
What would you recomend... -
Why doesnt the 2017 have a kickstart;(

Kyle, enjoyed your reviews of the Yamaha YZ250FX and the YZ450FX. Your reviews are vastly superior to almost all the other channels out there. You are tops. You seem to know exactly what we as riders are looking for from channels like yours. Drop dead serious question for you... if you could only have one of two bikes for all of your riding, the Yamaha YZ250FX and the YZ450FX, which one would you choose? My type of riding is exactly like you show in your videos, aggressive trail riding. No MX style riding. Some pavement to get to the dirt. I would find a way to make the bike street legal. I greatly value your opinion. Many thanks.

Have had mine about a year and here's my thoughts and adds: 1) Lurchiness mitigated by taking off in 2nd, save 1st for very technical stuff, this bike chugs super low for a 4 stroke. 2) Loss of traction more likely because you run tires at 15 psi than lurchiness. Recommend dropping to 10-12 psi in the rear if you run HD tubes, i've been fine on CO single track. 3) Forgot to mention the fact this has a mount for a WR radiator fan. 4) for desert guys 14 tooth front sprocket better suits it. 5) The bike gets great gas mileage imo. Have gone 90 miles with a mix of fire roads, atv trails, technical single track, and river beds. Had a little more than approx. 1/4 gallon left in the tank. For the average rider it's plenty capacity for a solid day. I think that trip took us 8 hours, no gas stops. 6) wish they didn't get rid of the kickstart for the newer models. 7) the airbox design makes this the easiest airbox and filter I've ever cleaned. 8) suspension too soft for racing/fast stuff (offroad or mx), but great for technical stuff. Basically has a WR front, and YZ rear setup. Stock suspension and height better suited for 6 foot ~150 lbs riders. The bike is pretty tall for a 250. 9) stock weight is 250 lbs wet, portly for a 250f imo, but not felt while riding. 10) overall, a great bike that can do it all, especially since it has 6 gears. Nice to see a Japanese bike challenging European trail bikes.

personal i think the cable clutch is a good thing as it dosnt give me as many problems with hidralycs and so on.
also, if you take the older moddels like my own ktm 2012 model has hidralyc clutch, and the new ones has hidralyc clutch
