Lucky there were no kids or cargo on-board, it could have gotten bad. It is my opinion that this brand-new E-bike needs some serious re-programming of the control system. Otherwise, it seems like a great cargo bike.

Bob, you really need to learn how to ride these bikes before doing a review. We have the Spicy Curry as part of fleet of bikes and nobody has experienced these problems once they got the hang of it. And I've done 2 kids on board and 50 lbs in the front basket all in crazy hilly Vermont! Every e-bike I have ever ridden has had a learning curve. I think you are doing a disservice to the community by doing a review before you "learn" the bike.

The bike looks really nice but after this review I am cautious. Maybe they should hook up a sram automatix to fix the shifting power problems

I did not have issues like this but what I will say is on that bike you need to be in the right mode for what you are doing. I would never start in mode 4 unless I'm prepared to go fast. That hill does not look steep. I would have been in mode 1-2 and in an easy gear and it would have been fine. Also, each mode has an ideal speed to pedal. Never try to ride slow in 4 unless you have a significant load perhaps. If you are not in the right speed (too slow for mode), the power will kick off and on. I do wish it was more seamless but this was in no way an issue for me. BTW, I've done an average of 40-50 miles a day round trips. I'm doing a series of videos to capture my experience.

I think it's important to note that there is a option in the computer head to reduce the torque in any of the 4 assist levels. I think it is also important to remember that the bike is set up to carry 700lbs. Maybe riding in level four with no cargo makes it feel too fast? That being said, I have ridden the bike empty and it didn't feel jumpy to me.

Okay here is the issue I have in detail. Again, I Love this bike. So much fun and my wife rides the back of it also. It's strong and can carry a load and eat hills for breakfast.
The power kicks on and goes in and out while riding. You have to pedal fast and strong and the power will sometimes stay consistent. The problem with that is that you get winded and tired very easily trying to pedal fast at long distances (that defeats the purpose of the ride) Also if you are disabled, it's really a strain to have to pedal fast to try and keep the motor engaged.
It's also very dangerous as my wife and I experienced on the road a dozen times so far, and that's because when in traffic trying to cross stop signs or red lights or even on a continual road with traffic the power cuts out and "Oh boy" you are just hoping the cars behinds you are patient.
Larry Pizzi did tell me Bob that there is a Button coming out in the next 30-60 days so that we have that remote function. That will at least give us some continual power to get through certain situations. I believe once they fine tune everything and work on the motor more so that the power is no longer intermittent that this bike will be one of the best if not the best around for a cargo given that fact that it's already a beast when it comes to hauling and going up hill.

This is a major issue. I myself do not like it. I Love the bike, but the power cut in and out makes me frustrated. I almost fell off when the power kicked on and off.

Interesting. I rode one on Monday with both my kids (about 95lbs) on board and experienced no jumpiness/banging.
